![]() Not having experience with these pets, I can't give details like I could for the other creatures, but it does not sound like a bad idea, so I'll probably try it out. So long as you think of it as a death-summoning grenade (and ignore any moral inquaries about keeping such a thing alive for your own benefit), it'll work perfectly.Īs for Kluex Sentry, I never considered using them (didn't even know they could be petted), but I'd agree they'd probably make a good pet that would stay around you and shoot nearby hostiles with range attacks. The only negative it that it's ugly (when it's mouth isn't open, the AP looks like a huge snuggly stuffed animal you could use as a bed) and it's very slow (meaning you'll want to get good at throwing that capture pod). And their health is decent, so if you throw them into the middle of a group of baddies like a grenade, it'll likely last until the end while one-shotting each foe with a damage collar. Regarding Apex Mutant from lab biomes, they are probably THE hardest hitting pets in the game. A highly effective defensive pet just be mindful about how close the enemy gets to you. ![]() Melee weapons tend to be a bit more damaging, so if someone gets past your AP, you'll effectively be caught with your pants down unless you have a melee weapon of your own fast handy. The downsides of this pet are that it is restricted to the ground, it's size (which is a plus for shielding but minus for manuverability), and it'll only really keep you safe from range attacks while limiting you to range attacks if you want to stay safe. They may only be able to attack physically, but give them a healing collar and you have a big meatshield to absorb bullets. So keep those things in mind.Īdult Poptops I highly recommend for combat pets. Also, it's large size causes problems when delving into planets, so it may get caught on blocks or may not even be able to help if it can't teleport into a room big enough for it. I've encountered 2 so far, both of which have short-ranged beam attacks (like about a spear's length away from its head), one of which needs a second to charge the attack. Large Fliers are big, beefy, and powerful, but you have to be mindful. ![]() Thankfully, only a risk in less than a handful of biomes. Just make sure to call Lumo back to its pod when you get near any hazardous liquids (like poison or lava) as it'll mindlessly fly through them, get poisoned/burned, and promptly die, leaving you alone in the dark. Gives off great light, is intangible, and hovers around you constantly. I'd recommend using a Wisper for an explorer pet that stays nice throughout the game.įor a purely exploratory pet, a Lumoth with an oblivious collar is perfect. It's not very strong or tough, but it's an ice elemental (meaning its attack sometimes inflict Frost and slow enemies), it has ranged attacks (so it stays near me most of the time), is intangible (so it won't get stuck on anything), and gives off light like a Lumoth (not as good a light as a Lumoth, but still decent). I also find a Wisper from ice biomes to be pretty good.
